Being a parent certainly isn’t easy. So, let’s take a moment and give them some props. If your parents did these things, then you know your childhood was probably awesome.
1. When you went to the grocery store, they let you push one of those little kid’s cart:
2. When you played games with them, they let you win:
3. They made sure you never went hungry:
4. They taught you the importance of hard work:
5. They let you go out and explore the world on your own:
6. If it made you happy, they’d do it:
7. You got to learn from your own mistakes:
8. They let you lick the beaters:
9. They never gave you this note in a school lunch:
10. Instead, they looked more like this:
11. If you fell asleep in the car after your bedtime, they carried you to bed:
12. They stayed up all night making something you would only wear once:
13. They cheered you on, no matter how bad you were:
14. They taught you that nothing is impossible:
15. They poured your pancakes into different shapes:
16. You wanted to be just like them when you grew up:
17. They never did this to you:
18. Or this:
19. They taught you to be grateful for what you had:
20. They love you so much, sometimes it’s embarrassing:
21. They took the time to include you in their interests:
22. They thought you were beautiful no matter what (yes, even during that awkward phase):
23. No matter what mistakes you made, they always forgave you:
24. They supported your decisions:
25. They taught you the difference between right and wrong:
26. They still wear sandals with socks, and didn’t stop when you made fun of them because you should be yourself and it doesn’t matter what other people think (right?):
27. They went well out of their ways to ensure your happiness:

that last one almost made me tear up :`)
I damn near cried at the last one.
So THAT’S how parenting works
Seriously, though. The screw.
The screw, damn it.
cut the shape into a block of wood, stick one end into a pot of boiling water to soften it up, put it in a clamp and squish it down, drill the screw into the cut out sections, take the block out of the clamp, and back into boiling water for it to go back to its original shape, leave to dry…
tl;dr…he did it by magic
Jeff, this was absolutely beautiful. The last one was incredible.
Obviously some of these are hypocritical. “Teaches you right and wrong” “Let you make fun of them” This is completely sad, although I really liked the last one. That’s a good parent. And the rest are contradictory, and frankly sound like they raise the people who make my life worse.
Yup. Nailed it.
Did anyone notice that there’s beer in the little kid’s cart in the first picture?
I think it’s superb that a lot of great dads got their time in here. So they’re a little wacky?
That’s good, too.
#26: Why should I make fun of my dad for that? I do it myself and never saw the problem. When it’s warm enough to ditch the normal shoes for sandals, I do it since sandals are more comfortable. When I notice that it’s still a bit chilly I just slap on some socks and boom: comfort AND warmth.
Also, yay for meeting most of these.
